U. Delaware Hosts Hospitality-Specific PCI Conference

The University of Delaware, in conjunction with the Unified Compliance Framework, has created the first conference dedicated to Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance within the hospitality industry.

The PCI Compliance in Hospitality Conference is May 1-2, 2008, at the University of Delaware's Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management Program's teaching facility, the University of Delaware Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Newark, DE. Bob Russo, general manager, PCI Security Standards Council, will keynote the conference.

The program was created by Dr. Cihan Cobanoglu, associate professor of hospitality information technology at the University of Delaware along with some of the nation's leading experts to provide a cost-effective way for hospitality IT professionals to obtain the latest regulatory guidance and best practices in all areas of Payment Card Industry compliance.

"Almost half of hospitality businesses are not fully PCI compliant due to lack of clear direction," said Dr. Cobanoglu. "The conference will clear up the confusion and give hospitality IT managers clear direction and focus."

The process by which a hotel, restaurant or club must achieve PCI compliance is complex and ongoing. Dorian Cougias, CTO and co-creator of the Unified Compliance Framework, will shed some light on compliance regulations during his closing keynote.

"The UCF is a proud sponsor of the University of Delaware's efforts to help the hospitality industry comply with the incredible number of compliance requirements while distilling the practical requirements into focused, actionable compliance controls," says Cougias.

Topics covered over the two days include how to keep your hotel, restaurant, or club PCI compliant, avoiding expensive data breaches, PCI-DSS, PIN Entry Device Security Requirements, Payment Application Data Security Standard, the new Self Assessment Questionnaires, major trends, and other related guidelines such as the BBB and privacy controls for the hospitality industry.
