HITEC: Ovation Networks Intros Energy-Saving EcoManaged Service

6/23/2011
Cedar Rapids, IA-based Ovation Networks, a provider of managed technology services for the hospitality industry, announced its new patent-pending energy management service, EcoManaged at the 2011 HITEC tradeshow in Austin, TX. It is an energy management solution that detects occupancy and comfort, utilizing a Wi-Fi network and carbon dioxide.

Ovation’s EcoManaged Energy Management System uses centralized intelligence with a Wi-Fi enabled, carbon dioxide occupancy and comfort sensing thermostat to control HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) in hotel rooms. The patent-pending technology is just one piece of the solution as the company provides ongoing service which helps hoteliers save with energy rebates and tax deductions, as well as monitoring and tracking of the system to recognize and leverage energy-saving trends.

The company recently completed field testing at a hotel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, that resulted in EcoManaged generating energy savings between 40% and 48%. Tests have shown that ROI is less than 18 months for most properties.

EcoManaged's thermostat, ComfortStat, replaces the factory controls on each PTAC (packaged terminal air conditioner) unit in the hotel room. The guest interfaces with ComfortStat much like they would use a thermostat in their home. Completely wireless, using Wi-Fi network, the thermostat communicates to a central server that stores and correlates data to make decisions on occupancy and climate control.

The EcoManaged Energy Management System includes real-time and historical data to provide property owners with reports on which areas and rooms are most or least efficient. In addition, a Dedicated EcoManaged Energy Specialist takes care of finding energy rebates and programs to increase the customer’s savings. Interested parties are offered a free Energy Assessment by Ovation Networks.
