Top Ten POS Stories from February: Wireless Touchscreens, iPad Apps, and More

This month Hospitality Technology (HT) is counting down its “top ten” POS headlines. These point-of-service headlines span the restaurant and hotel industries and are indicative that when it comes to POS, owners and operators are always looking for the next innovation to help increase sales and drive business. In case you missed these stories the first time around, here is a brief overview of what was happening in POS in February: Krispy Kreme Moves POS to the Cloud, Trump Hotel Improves Guest Experience with Cross-Property Control, and a sports arena rolls out a wireless touchscreen concierge system.
 
 
Harbortouch Enhances its Free POS System Program
Harbortouch has added two enhancements to its free POS system program. The first is the introduction of a 30 day free trial program. This allows merchants to test out the Harbortouch POS system for up to 30 days and return it with no penalty if they are unhappy with it for any reason.  
 
 

Stella Nova Intros Mobile POS
A new SOA-based solution from Stella Nova will keep POS independent of mobile devices and operating systems. The Mobile POS solution is implemented on the service oriented architecture-based Stella Nova Mobile Retail Framework and is designed to keep POS functionality independent of the mobile device and its operating system.
 
 

Trump Hotel Improves Guest Experience with POS
Trump Hotel Collection has partnered with Micros to provide cross-property quality and superior service. The Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto has selected the MICROS OPERA Enterprise Solution and the MICROS Restaurant Enterprise Solution (RES) as its primary hospitality technology systems.
 
 
Papa Gino's Increases Efficiency with POS System
Papa Gino's has partnered with NCR to rollout upgraded hardware and POS software. Papa Gino's, Inc. has converted 113 D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches restaurant locations to the SpeedLine point of sale software, wrapping up the first phase of the company’s planned rollout to its Papa Gino's Pizzeria and D’Angelo restaurants.  
 
 
Krispy Kreme Franchises Improve Efficiency, Reduce Costs with Cloud Solution
Krispy Kreme franchises enjoy reduced expenses and improved efficiency with a new cloud-based POS. Franchise locations throughout South, Central and West Texas have seen an uptick in efficiency with the implementation of MICROS  Simphony and has rolled it out in all eight of its locations.
 

iPad Tablet Offers Wine Ordering Solution for Philadelphia Restaurant
A wireless wine list system elevates the wine program for Marc Vetri's Osteria Restaurant. Osteria will now offer their guests an iPad with the Tiare ordering solution for ordering wine, beer and cocktails.
 
 
Quicken Loans Arena Intros Wireless Touchscreen Concierge
The Cleveland Cavs' home turf teams with Aramark to launch SmartTouch technology in the arena's luxury suites. Quicken Loans Arena (“The Q”), in partnership with ARAMARK, is introducing SmartTouch technology using Apple’s iPad into its 92 luxury suites to deliver guests a richer hospitality experience utilizing 100 percent wireless touch screens.
 


POS Saves Restaurant from Tax Man
The Smokehouse, a casual restaurant in Ann Arbor, MI, was losing money due to an inefficient POS. With a custom-designed POS, the establishment was able to stop overpaying taxes and saw a boost in its customer loyalty program.
