For its 100th anniversary, the NRF Big Show (National Retail Federation) reported a 20% boost in pre-registration numbers. Held January 9-12 in New York City, NRF showcases technology that aids not just retail operators, but hospitality operators as well.

Epson America (http://pos.epson.com) introduced the TM-H6000IV, a multi-function POS printer that is Energy Star qualified, but with transaction speeds of up to 300mm per second. According to Epson, the printer can reduce receipt paper usage by more than 25 percent. Meanwhile, Friendly’s Express, a five-unit, fast-casual Friendly’s (www.friendlys.com) concept, is using Epson’s TM-T88 ReStick thermal printer in conjunction with MAXStick (www.maxstick.com) liner-free, biodegradable and recyclable labels. “The Epson / MAXStick solution…has streamlined our preparation process and allowed us to customize, and ultimately greatly enhance, the way we deliver orders to our customers,” says Richard Delvalle, director of restaurant systems for Friendly’s.

JDS Solutions (www.jdssc.com), provider of retail management software, announced the integration of its WinRetail solution with Siriusware (www.siriusware.com) that consolidates ski retail and rental sales at one point of sale. Two Utah-based resorts are already benefiting from the WinRetail/Siriusware solution: Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort (www.snowbird.com) and Montage Deer Valley (www.montagedeervalley.com).

Intel Corporation (www.intel.com) unveiled its Intel AIM Suite, a new video analytics technology for anonymous audience measurement. Companies such as The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino (www.venetian.com) are using it to monitor digital signage viewer metrics such as age, gender and length of attention. This enables the delivery of targeted content for individual viewers and tracks the return on investment with greater accuracy.
