Talk to Me: iPads Facilitate Direct Communication with Royalton Staff

The boutique hotel company, Morgans Hotel Group Co. ("MHG"), plans to provide guests at its Royalton hotel with custom Apple iPads as a supplement to its concierge program. This new initiative launches during New York Fashion Week and will continue indefinitely, with plans to embellish the unique features and content in the months to come.

In keeping with Morgans Hotel Group's commitment to innovation and offering its guests engaging experiences and cutting-edge technology, this latest amenity will keep Royalton's savvy clientele in the know and informed with content relating to the most relevant citywide events such as Fashion Week, The Armory Show and the New York Marathon. This unique extension of the company's renowned concierge services will further facilitate discerning guests' movements through the city, arming them with 'insider' knowledge, and ensuring that every aspect of their hotel stay is tailored to personal preference.

Direct communication with hotel management via iPads enables a seamless stay at Royalton, providing one touch access to hotel services including in-room dining, housekeeping, wake up calls, valet parking/bellman, Internet, hotel information, transportation options, maps and directions. Beyond these traditional hotel services, unique features include:

  • A first look at Morgans Hotel Group's new collaboration with RCRD LBL, the premiere online destination for free downloads from the hottest marquee and emergent artists.
  • The List: Content sourced from "The List" destination guide, curated by the group's concierge teams in collaboration with UrbanDaddy, the city's de facto dining and nightlife authority.
  • Follow Us: Links to the hotel's acclaimed Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter pages.
  • Fashion: Continually updated information on what's happening in the city during Fashion Week.
  • Newspapers and Magazines: Links to major media outlets, including The New York Times, Financial Times, New York Post, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and The International Herald Tribune, Interview Magazine, New York Magazine, Wallpaper and City Magazine.
  • Sleep Sounds: A custom playlist of exclusive gentle sounds to help one fall asleep, providing guests with a luxurious nocturnal experience.

"Innovation and enhanced guest experience are high priorities for us," says Kim Walker, senior vice president and creative director for Morgans Hotel Group. "The in-room iPad concierge program we have created for Royalton is creative and playful, as well as practical, and it speaks to the personality of our guests. The content offered here, from 'The List' to custom playlists created exclusively for us by RCRD LBL, takes the traditional idea of a hotel amenity to a new level."

Talking to staff
In addition to serving as a resource for guests, this new platform also offers advanced communication tools for hotel staff, including real time messaging, notes from the General Manager, messages regarding programmed events, and information on specialty cocktails and featured menu items from the restaurant. Hotel employees will even be able to program specific video or on-screen messaging for in-house groups. Royalton, already renowned for their staff and service, expects this program to enhance guest communication while heightening operational efficiencies.

One of the additional features in development is a mobile application that will allow guests to access these features from their mobile device. Morgans Hotel Group's new iPad amenity will soon be expanded to the entire hotel collection.
