Pennsylvania Convention Center Chooses Xirrus Wi-Fi to Support its High-Density Evolvement

6/30/2015
The Pennsylvania Convention Center selected high-performance wireless network provider Xirrus to support its evolving high-density environment and improve user experience. Xirrus Wi-Fi with cloud-based management was reportedly chosen to deliver a great experience in crowded areas, flexibility to meet the needs of different types of events, and a simple management feature.

With Xirrus wireless solutions, the Pennsylvania Convention Center now benefits from:

  • Cost savings – Reduced amount of Access Points (APs) from 700 to 350

  • Time management – Added Service Set Identifiers (SSIDs) in just 30 seconds, compared to five minutes with competitive network

  • Instant Upgrades – Dynamically adjusted wireless bands from 2.4 to 5 Ghz and back, in addition to a mix of 802.11ac radios.

Located in the center of Philadelphia’s historic downtown, the Convention Center offers one million square feet of event space, which includes more than 679,000 square feet of exhibit space in seven halls, 82 meeting rooms, and an 87,000-square foot ballroom—the largest in the Northeast.

According to Xirrus, convention centers represent one of the densest environments for Wi-Fi connection. With attendees bringing more than one Wi-Fi-connected device to events, these facilities must ensure all these devices can simultaneously connect without any problems arising. Xirrus said its purpose-built Wi-Fi solutions are optimized to meet the high device and user densities in large public venues.

Pennsylvania Convention Center is home to large-scale events hosted by organizations including BIO International, International Society for Technology in Education and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People – all of which will benefit from the center’s increased Wi-Fi capacity. In 2016, the facility will welcome the Democratic National Convention.
