Panasonic Offers Biometric Fingerprint Sensor on Stingray JS-950 POS Workstations

DigitalPersona, Inc., a leader in fingerprint identity and authentication solutions, today announced that Panasonic System Solutions Company is now offering U.are.U fingerprint sensors from DigitalPersona as a field-upgradeable option on Panasonic's modular point-of-sale (POS) workstation, the Stingray JS-950. The fingerprint sensor is in a modular case that can be attached to either side of the Panasonic Stingray display screen. It gives POS applications the ability to rapidly recognize users with a simple touch, without the hassles of swipe cards, tokens or passwords. POS applications use biometrics to increase accountability, simplify user provisioning and make operations more efficient.

Panasonic is using the embedded version of DigitalPersona's U.are.U fingerprint sensor, which offers a powerful combination of size, accuracy and performance for handling hard-to-read fingerprints in commercial environments. The Panasonic Stingray JS-950 workstation is available through Panasonic's world-wide network of authorized dealers and solution providers. POS applications that support biometrics on the Panasonic Stingray are available from a variety of independent software vendors. Software development kits for adding fingerprint biometrics to custom applications on Windows and Linux are available from DigitalPersona at www.digitalpersona.com/sdk.
