Motel 6 Announces Major Nationwide Wi-Fi Installations

Accor North America, one of the largest hotel chain owners and operators in North America, announces the completed installation of wireless, high speed Internet access in its Motel 6 and Studio 6 properties nationwide for $2.99 per 24-hour period.

Accor contracted with AT&T to provide managed network services and teamed with Teledex to provide Wi-Fi equipment and support to more than 600 Motel 6 and Studio 6 corporate properties nationwide. In addition to the more than 600 corporate properties, almost 200 franchise properties have also made Wi-Fi available to guests. Accor NA first launched Wi-Fi in all of its Studio 6 properties and completed installation by the end of 2006. After testing Wi-Fi in Studio 6 and select Motel 6 properties in 2006 and 2007, Accor NA began adding the service to Motel 6 properties nationwide in January 2008.

"Motel 6 is always striving to meet the needs of our customers, and we realize that Internet access is a necessity for many people in both leisure and business travel. And because we want to maintain the integrity of our positioning as the lowest price of any national chain, and deliver what our guests want, we will charge $2.99 per 24-hour period, separate from the room price." says Jim Amorosia, president and chief operating officer for Motel 6, Studio 6 and Accor North America. "We are excited to be able to leave the light and the Internet on for our guests."

Under terms of the $9 million, three-year agreement, AT&T will provide Managed Internet Service (MIS) and firewall and router implementation services. AT&T MIS provides high speed dedicated access with world-class reliability, optimal performance, scalability and security features. The AT&T network is highly scalable, offering Accor NA the flexibility to customize its network services to expand when levels of higher bandwidth are required. In addition to network services, AT&T provides Accor NA with a full suite of voice and Internet access services.

The installation of Teledex's ExpressNet was completed in roughly four and a half months, wrapping up on May 27, 2008.

Teledex provided ExpressNet AirLink wireless gear, including in-room wireless access points, gateway servers, and switch gear, as well as configuration and installation services for all properties in the installation. The company is also providing 24/7 guest and administrative support for all the guest rooms and lobbies served.

Teledex partner Second Rule LLC supplied IP3 NetAccess gateways for the project.
One gateway per property was configured and installed by Teledex field technicians, to handle user authentication, network management and other tasks critical to deploying successful wireless Internet service.
