MURTEC: How to Get Franchisees Onboard with New Tech

1/20/2017
KFC’s beloved Colonel Harland Sanders was a foodservice visionary, but didn’t have technology in mind when he drew up those earliest franchise agreements. Working with franchises that are running 50+ different Point of Sale systems can cause many pain points, so establishing consistent technology standards across a brand is vital to consistent service and customer experiences.

With 25+ years’ experience with KFC, Patrick Coty, Director of IT, will offer best practices for how to get system-wide buy-in from long-term and new franchisees for new digital and tech initiatives. In his session titled: "Getting Franchisees Onboard with Tech," Coty will provide #MURTEC attendees with a roadmap for how to maintain consistent cross-franchise technology standards as well how to get systems tailored to foster franchise-wide adoption.

Coty is the Director of Infrastructure, Security, and Data Management for KFC US, a subsidiary of Yum Brands. In this role, Patrick leads a team responsible for supporting the technology needs of more than 4000 restaurants owned by more than 500 franchisees.

Coty was responsible for leading an effort to standardize franchisees on technology. Through his efforts and leadership, KFC went from 12 franchisees participating in 2007 to a self-mandate for all franchisees in 2011.

Coty has almost 20 years of experience in IT doing support, systems development and QA, account management, infrastructure, and security. He has worked on large technology initiatives for all Yum Brands restaurant companies (KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell) both domestically and internationally.

Now in its 22nd year, the Multi-Unit Restaurant Technology Conference (MURTEC) produced by Hospitality Technology, has become the “Gold Standard” event for education and networking in the restaurant technology industry. Hosting 700+ restaurant technology executives and solution providers, the event has grown every year to expand on all fronts – more technology, more education, more networking – all while still maintaining an exclusivity and intimacy that fosters invaluable peer-to-peer idea-sharing.

MURTEC remains at the top of restaurant industry events because of its laser-focus on providing IT leaders and solution providers with a forum to learn about and discuss issues of the day and consider action plans and future investments.
