Live from HITEC: MICROS Debuts Its Latest Point-of-Service Technologies

MICROS Systems, Inc., a provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality industry, will showcase its newest point-of-service technologies at the 2009 HITEC Convention which will be held in Anaheim, California June 22 - 25, 2008. The latest technologies include Mobile Ordering, Digital Menu Boards, MyStayManager, Loss Prevention, and an overall tighter integration with the MICROS OPERA Enterprise Solution.

Smartphones have become a very popular and convenient technology in our society. The ability to manage our lives and work functions on the go has become important to many people who look for any way in which they can save time. MICROS will demonstrate a number of new Mobile MICROS features using the Apple iPhone, including mobile ordering by wait staff and self-ordering by guests, such as ordering and pre-ordering food for in-room service and poolside service.

One of the latest tools to emerge in the hospitality industry is the Digital Menu Board. A fully integrated feature of the MICROS RES and Simphony point-of-sale (POS) systems, this dynamic technology displays menus while simultaneously drawing customers' attention to other relevant information, like current restaurant promotions or other promotions offered on property such as the spa. While the hospitality industry becomes increasingly aware of the benefits of digital versus traditional menu boards, restaurant and hotel operators now have a solid solution that will improve operations and boost customer experience.

OPERA's MyStayManager which debuts with the release of OPERA V5.0.01.04 and will offer hotel reservation booking, profile management, check in and checkout, folio viewing, restaurant reservation services, spa appointments, and golf tee times, will even allow the guest to order room service directly from their PDA, into the hotel's MICROS point-of-sale system, delivering the order straight to the kitchen or bar.

Centralized tools
Through seamless integration with MICROS Guest Connection, the Resort Dashboard within the OPERA Activities Scheduler provides a central location for hotel agents to schedule guest activities, such as dining reservations, spa appointments, rental items, and golf tee times. From a single screen, you can quickly book a reservation and schedule all activities for a guest.

MICROS's mymicros.net incorporates XBR Loss Prevention technology from MICROS-Retail, the world's most widely used loss prevention and data analysis tool. It goes into action quickly, using exception based reporting methods to easily identify, track, and respond to unit events - everything from voids and employee meals to closed checks that were reopened. XBR Loss Prevention has an immediate impact on profitability, operational efficiency, and employee productivity. Moreover, there is no need to acquire and install a separate loss prevention application since the XBR database is fully integrated into mymicros.net.

MICROS will also show MICROS Simphony v1.2, which includes enhanced features for serving periods, value added tax posting, slip printer support, gaming commission reporting, liquor dispensing system support, and handheld support. These features address the requirements of the casino marketplace and the international arena.
