HT-NEXT: Are Hotels Falling Asleep at the Wheel When It Comes to EMV Compliance?

3/27/2017
HT-NEXT will offer attendees "Lightning Chats: Bolts of Insight in 20 Minutes" on April 12. During these sessions, attendees will have the chance to hear speakers discuss important topics. One such speaker, Jeff Parker, vice president, hotel technology, RLHC and a member of HTNG’s Payment Technology’s Workgroup, will lead a session titled "Hotels & EMV: Falling Asleep at the Wheel" from 11:50 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

According to Parker, there has been much confusion, uncertainty and reluctance surrounding EMV since the Liability Shift took place in October of 2015. Part of the confusion stems from the fact that EMV alone is NOT a security solution, but rather a card verification methodology that requires a layered security approach including P2PE. In this session, Parker will share a state of the industry on where hotels are concerning EMV and where they should be.

Parker is a nationally recognized leader in data security, notably with relation to PCI compliance. Additionally, he leads the evaluation of new property level systems to be incorporated or interfaced into current systems that would benefit Managed/Franchised operations and/or its franchisee’s from an operational and/or financial impact.

Prior to RLHC, Parker worked under the vice president of hotel technology title with Interstate Hotels and Resorts and Magnolia Hotels. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications from Metropolitan State College of Denver and has been working in the industry for more than 28 years.
