Fairfield Marriott Opts for Contactless RFID Locking System

11/12/2013
The recently opened Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott New York Brooklyn is among the first properties in Marriott International's midscale Fairfield brand portfolio to feature contactless Signature RFID locks from VingCard Elsafe, part of the ASSA ABLOY Group. In addition, the Marriott Brooklyn Fairfield has implemented VISION, the complementary software platform that provides hotel staff with defined and flexible control over exactly who may access what areas of the property, and when.

VingCard Elsafe's Signature RFID locks, installed across all of the Marriott Brooklyn Fairfield's 133 guestrooms, allow for simple, contactless guestroom entry. Requiring little visible locking hardware on the guestroom door, with only a small signal reader needed, Signature RFID locks provide maximum guest security backed by powerful anti-cloning technology that ensures the system cannot be compromised. Crucially, the RFID access readers are designed to be easily adapted to employ the increasingly widespread Near Field Communication (NFC) technology that will ultimately allow travelers to use their mobile devices as room keys. Moreover, Signature RFID locks are more aesthetically pleasing than traditional magnetic stripe locks because they require only a small reader, rather than the bulky card slots that guests are used to seeing.

The hotel's employees appreciate the high guest satisfaction that comes with the simpler ease of use and the elimination of accidental keycard deactivations. Managers have considerably more control over the security situation in the hotel thanks to the VISION system, which lets them assign and revoke access privileges from a central computer. VISION also includes event log, meaning they can view the previous 600 access attempts on any given hotel lock, giving managers valuable information in the event of a guest dispute.
