EMV, E-commerce Integration & mPOS Top Biz Drivers Impacting Restaurant POS Upgrades

1/13/2017
On Jan. 15, thousands of companies and even more industry professionals will converge on the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City for NRF 2017. Hospitality Technology will be onsite to report on all the latest technology releases and announcements and analyze what impact they may have in the hospitality sector. Early reports from exhibiting companies indicate that point of sale technologies will be getting a bevy of updates and upgrades to accommodate the next-generation of consumer.

HT’s December issue featured the annual 2017 POS Software Trends Report. This annual research found that 60% of operators plan to add new functionality, features and/or modules to current POS systems and 33% plan to test and research new POS solutions for implementation in 2017.

When asked to identify what business drivers will impact future POS upgrades, restaurant operators indicated that preparing for EMV (66%) and adding mobile POS (52%) were top priorities. Tighter integration with e-commerce platforms saw a significant increase in interest going from 22% in 2016 to 33% in 2017. This indicates a shift to operators looking to embrace omni-channel strategies by giving customers a seamless experience across ordering platforms.
