Reflections & Goals

Just a few short months ago, we were making last minute plans for summer vacations. Yet already, children have returned to school and holiday decorations fill many retailers' window displays, a tart reminder of just how quickly and easily time passes. Despite all our best efforts to defy its momentum, from late-night miracle creams to mid-life sports cars, the only real way to conquer time is to make the best of its every passing moment, reflect on past accomplishments and set goals for the future.

As a magazine, Hospitality Technology has much to be proud of this past year. We have quadrupled the number of conferences and face-to-face networking events we offer, growing from just one, MURTEC in 2004, to four highly-praised industry events in 2006. The continuing success of these foodservice and lodging events has shown us just how much this industry has to offer as it relates to networking and sharing stories that impact us all. A special thank you is due to the attendees and sponsors who make these events possible. We couldn't do it without their support and belief in quality content and one-on-one networking.

The year has also brought a notable personnel change to our magazine. Reid Paul, former editor-in-chief, has moved on to write for a publication in the medical industry. Reid's talent and dedication to Hospitality Technology has helped it expand into new areas and gave it an editorial focus that has catapulted it to a must-read industry publication. We wish him well in his new endeavors.

We are extremely excited to have Abigail A. Lorden join Hospitality Technology as editor. Abigail's career at parent company Edgell Communications includes the role of editor of sister publication Vertical Systems Reseller, and prior to that assistant editor of Hospitality Technology. She has an extensive travel writing background and a strong grasp of the role IT plays in hospitality environments. Her knowledge of both the end user and reseller markets will continue to help grow Hospitality Technology's editorial content and presence in the marketplace.
