Dr. Mehmet Erdem is an Associate Professor of Hospitality Operations and Technology at the Hotel College of University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). Prior to UNLV, he taught in the College of Business at University of New Orleans and in the School of Learning Design and Technology at Purdue University.
Dr. Erdem has over 10 years of hospitality operations experience. As part of his industry tenure, he was responsible for training and development as well as information systems. A technology and instructional design consultant since 2000, he also serves as an on-call corporate trainer for the International Gaming Institute (IGI) at UNLV.
Dr. Erdem has earned his Ph.D. in Hotel Administration at UNLV. He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Hotel and Tourism Management from Purdue University. His research, teaching, and consulting interests focus on the use of technology in hospitality operations as well as the assessment of training and decision support systems in the workplace. He is currently managing a USDA funded research project for developing a training program that is customized for Latino/Latina foodservice employees.
He regularly presents his research at professional and academic conferences. As the guest editor for Journal of Hospitality Marketing and Management, he has recently compiled a special issue entitled ‘The Impact of Consumer Generated Media and Social Networking in Hospitality: The Implications for Consumers and Hospitality Managers’. He has also co-authored the annual restaurant technology studies (2009-2011) by HT Magazine.
Dr. Erdem’s professional affiliations include the International Hospitality Information Technology Association (iHITA) – where he serves as the President.
