Dr. Mehmet Erdem is an Associate Professor of Hotel Operations and Technology at the Hotel College of University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). Prior to UNLV, he taught in the College of Business at University of New Orleans and in the School of Learning Design and Technology at Purdue University.
Dr. Erdem has over 10 years of lodging operations experience. As part of his industry tenure, he was responsible for training and development, rooms division, and information systems. A technology and instructional design consultant since 2000, he also serves as an on-call corporate trainer for the International Gaming Institute (IGI) at UNLV.
Dr. Erdem has earned his Ph.D. in Hotel Administration at UNLV. He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Hotel and Tourism Management from Purdue University. He has also been designated the CHTP (Certified Hospitality Technology Professional) title commissioned by the Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals and Educational Institute of American Hotel & Lodging Association. His research, teaching, and consulting interests focus on the use of technology in hospitality operations as well as the assessment of training and decision support systems in the workplace. He has published his work in research journals such as International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Journal of Business and Behavioral Sciences, and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology. He regularly presents his research at professional and academic conferences. As the guest editor for Journal of Hospitality Marketing and Management, he has recently compiled a special issue entitled ‘The Impact of Consumer Generated Media and Social Networking in Hospitality: The Implications for Consumers and Hospitality Managers’.
Dr. Erdem’s professional affiliations include the International Hospitality Information Technology Association (iHITA) – where he serves as the President, Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) – where he serves as a member of the Certification Advisory Council, and the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (I-CHRIE) - where he serves as the Conference Chair for the technology track.
