Phil Mott is an Assistant Professor at The Kendall College, School of Hospitality Management in Chicago, and an independent restaurant consultant. He has worked in nearly every sector of the restaurant industry during the last thirty years.
His experience includes working at the casual-dining chain Bennigan's, the National Restaurant Association Headquarters, Levy Restaurants, a fine-wine distributor and importer, and many years of working with his brother founding and growing a private foodservice, catering and restaurant company. In addition he was a financial analyst for a major investment bank.
His restaurant career peaked when he became the proprietor of the iconic French restaurant, Le Francais in Wheeling, Illinois. His time at Le Francais was noted for achieving top rankings from the Mobil Dining Guide, AAA Dining Guide and the Chicago Tribune. He is a partner in North Pond, the acclaimed restaurant in Chicago's Lincoln Park.
His broad range of industry knowledge is clearly evident in his teaching resume; he has taught seventeen separate courses in both the Culinary and Hospitality Management Departments at Kendall in topics ranging from Strategic Management, Accounting and Menu Development to The Concept Restaurant and Food and Beverage Management. Professor Mott developed and teaches the Bachelors Degree Capstone classes for the Culinary and Hospitality Programs.
When not teaching, Mr. Mott consults on restaurant and hotel projects involving restaurant start-ups, feasibility studies, Food and Beverage Departments and concept development.
His comments are frequently seen in the local press and trade magazines. He recently gave a talk titled "So You Want to Open a Restaurantâ€¦.Let me Talk You Out of It".
Phil Mott holds an MBA in Finance from the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business and a BA in American History from the University of Buffalo.
